This cinema design was a small but key part within the whole house project. It consisted of turning an old, badly designed cinema room into a haven for the family. The perfect place to gather together and watch all their favourite films as well as keep up with sport in the comfort of their own home.
The Brief – The family wanted something that stood out, something that was different and that really gave a wow factor when people walked in the room; but in turn, not compromising on the quality in any way. With this in mind Smarthomes went away, had a project meeting involving all departments and got to work.
The Design – We created both CAD and CGI renders of the room, gathered samples and then had a thorough consultation with the whole family to discuss and chose colours, 3D panel styles, lighting and finalise the design; ensuring the room worked for each of them. The benefits in having a consultation after the initial design are huge, cinema rooms can cost a lot and seeing them before is key!
The Kit – We specified the latest in high quality JVC 4K projection onto a 110” screen, using Artcoustic bespoke cinema speakers to create a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos immersive sound setup, with acoustic walls and ceiling to maximum performance. For the ceiling coffer, LED strip and feature lighting were specified, and a starscape ceiling was ordered; and for the walls the plaster panels were made and sprayed to colour.
The Install – Following on from the planning our project management team itemised a schedule of trades needed onsite and when. They liaised with each, booking builders to stud out all the walls and build the stage for tiered seating, arranged our electricians to be onsite the following week to install the lighting and cabling as per our designs. Then our fabric wall specialist, to install track, acoustic foam and stretch the fabric. Lastly a tiler to fit the plaster panels and our AV team to fit the speakers, screen and projector.
The Outcome – The images show how the room came together exceptionally well, each steps from design to install were incorporated and we didn’t miss a beat. The finished room was exactly what the client wanted and very alike the CGIs produced in the design stage.
